Small Business Saturday November 29, 2014

Do you know about Small Business Saturday? It was founded in 2010 in an effort to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. According to a recent survey conducted by the Public Affairs Council, 69% of Americans have a favorable opinion of large corporations. But 92% look favorably on small businesses.  Consumers spent $5.7 billion in 2013 “shopping small” at independently owned small businesses on this day, up 4% from 2012. It is a day that communities come together to celebrate and show support of their local businesses

Shop Small is a movement encouraging people to support the entrepreneurs who have become a driving force in the nation’s economic recovery.  Nearly 2/3 of jobs created in the private sector over the past decade have come from small companies.  In order for them to compete with big box stores that might be able to beat them on price, small retailers have to focus on location, community spirit, and the quality of merchandise and the service.
