There are some important changes coming to how you handle Visa purchase credit returns over the next few months.
Beginning this October, Visa will require you to obtain an authorization for all Visa purchase credit returns. While at this time, the requirement is for Visa only, we do anticipate the other card brands to follow suit.
Depending on the type of equipment you use, there are some details to keep in mind as you prepare.
When we have more information, we will update this post accordingly. For any merchant using a third-party POS system or gateway not mentioned above, please contact your provider to verify how and when they are preparing for this required change.
Lastly, it’s important to remember that with this type of change, we encourage you to educate your staff accordingly. While this requirement is to obtain an approval for all Visa purchase credit returns, there is a chance the return will be declined. Your staff should watch for the type of response received and know how to act accordingly. Should you receive a decline, a recommended course of action can be found below along with each action’s potential risk. Feel free to download and print for your own reference.
As always, we’re more than happy to address and questions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email, or you can contact your relationship manager directly.
