Is Your Business Protected from a Technical Flood?

Born on the Isthmus

I warily write this article after spending a week managing the continued flooding risk in Madison. My wife and I own a neat little bungalow on the Yahara river. Over the last few weeks (feels like months), I have worked with volunteers, neighbors and even the National Guard (thank you to all) on shoring up the defenses around the river. We have leveraged sandbags along with several different types of sump and utility pumps in the event of large flooding of the river. So, what the heck does that have to do with your business? Well let me get to that after I share some numbers with you.

My colleague and Wind River’s resident risk and security expert, Doug Buan, shared these statistics with me after attending the latest IAFCI conference. He reported that, according to Visa, “51% of all U.S. transactions are now Card Not Present (CNP). Also, 79 percent of all U.S. fraud is now from the CNP channel. Canada and Sweden are at 90 percent.

Let me tie it together already. Ecommerce, or taking payment from websites, is ripe for a flood of hackers. So the question is, which defenses do you have in place to make sure your business doesn’t go under water? While a business needs to focus on keeping the lights on, they also need to spend some time to make sure they are not being turned off. I say that metaphorically of course.

Weather the Storm with ASP

Enter Wind River’s Advanced Security Package to the rescue. My life would have been so much easier had I been able to just download and install the sandbags and sump pumps this last week, but I digress. The one tool I wish I could have used would have been the Web Malware Tool. It’s the Swiss Army knife in the Endpoint toolkit. It scans for malware on your website, notifies you if your site is blacklisted, and alerts you of items like your SSL certificate expiring. As for actually renewing your SSL certificate, I wish there was a simpler way to do that. Note to any entrepreneur out there; give me a call. There is money to be made!

The great part about Endpoint (Advanced Security Package) is that it requires no heavy lifting, no check values and is only a click away. But don’t take my word for it. Let me share with you president of Rockweiler Insulation, Renee Wilson’s comment. “Thank you so much! I just completed everything. The Endpoint toolkit really made this easy!”
